It's been a while since I just wrote about Rebekah, so I thought I'd catch up.
She's officially 18 months old as of Friday and it shows. She's become really independent and it's almost always entertaining to watch her stubbornness. Despite her strong-willed nature, she's generally obedient and even-tempered, usually happy, and swings back to a good mood pretty quickly.
Bekah can say a lot of words:
"bah-by" (bye-bye)
"da-un" (that one)
"tain-too" (thank you)
"dow" (down)
"uh-oh"
"stickah" (sticker)
"tie-gah" (tiger)
"tah-dah"
"flah-meen-oh" (flamingo)
She loves her Baby Einstein video about the animals. She's learned how to make the noise an elephant makes, knows what a hippo is, and generally understands that there are more animals in the world than just dogs.
One of her favorite activities in the day is to draw or color. She has no concept of coloring in the shapes that are on the paper, she just loves HOLDING the pens, pencils, and crayons and making marks with them. So far she hasn't done any abstract work on the walls or furniture, but I'm sure that'll come in time.
The silliest thing she likes to do is a little dangerous. She'll find a blanket, pillow case, towel, or shirt and put it over her head, covering her face. She'll walk around the house with her arms stretched out in front, giggling the whole time. I have to stay close to make sure she doesn't run into anything. She'll often fall into my arms with a big laugh, reveal her face with a grin, the push herself back up again and repeat the process. So random!!
Bekah still loves going to the babysitter's house a few times a week while I do substitute gigs. This doesn't seem to make her any better about sharing, even though she plays with Maddy (3 and 1/2 years old) all day. But we'll work on it.
Some of her other favorite daily activities are going to the park, anything that involves her daddy, holding keys and pretending to unlock doors, going for walks, and brushing her teeth. She hates car rides, sleeping without a pacifier, running out of milk in her bottle or sippy, and diaper changes.
I really enjoy this age. I think she's a lot of fun, genuine fun, and that surprises me some times. I try really hard to enjoy the time I have with her because I know I'll turn around someday soon and she'll be off to college.

Off to college? Noooooooooooo! It's so true...the days we left Jasper at school and put Chelsie on a plane for school were some of the saddest days. But you know what? It was way better than never seeing them grow independent enough to want to go away and live their own lives. Parenthood is a series of letting go and hanging on moments that last the rest of your life because they will always need you in some form and you will always need them.
Ya, nursery age! I LOVE to watch children at this stage, because they are learning new things and they love it. She sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you get to enjoy it for a long time.
cute cute cute!
