Jacob Tyler Sanders is (finally) here! He arrived at 3:05 on Thursday, November 4th. He weighed 8lbs 5ozs, and measured 20.5 inches long.
This is the only shot we got during labor and delivery. If you look back at this post, his picture might look familiar. Actually, this time, Malcom did a LOT of coaching and helping and my mom only assisted when asked. He did a great job!
Of course, there are no pictures for the next several hours of action, so I'll give a brief summary. I was induced with pitocin starting around 10:15. I definitely started to feel the pain around 1:45 and asked for the epidural. I was told it would be an hour before I could get it, so I opted for some stadol (a narcotic that makes you "not care" about the pain) while I waited. In between contractions, I definitely did not care about the pain, a sensation I doubted until I actually experienced it for myself. But each contraction got much stronger and more painful and Malcom helped me breath through each one. In the next hour, I dilated from 4 to 10 and it was time to push. I was in so much pain (more than I remember having with Bekah) that I was extremely motivated to push and got Jacob out in THREE good pushes. The immediate sense of relief was blissful!
Here's Malcom, helping to cut the cord:
My DIVINE support people: Malcom,
Cristina, my nurse,
the amazing and talented Dr. Hanusek (the same one who delivered Bekah!),
and the proud grandma--this makes grandchild #9 for her.
Bekah came the next day and met her baby brother. She was really excited and very sweet.
And two final glamor shots of the sweet little boy:
Jacob has been a great baby so far. He's mostly mellow and calm, except when he wants to eat. Then he definitely lets us know! Even with the crazy hospital (nurses coming to check us at all hours, noisy hallways, etc), Jacob was very relaxed. I hope this bodes well for the next few weeks/months, but since I'm not a brand new mom, I realize it just makes me crazy to expect too much!
Now that we're home from the hospital, a little bit of reality is beginning to set in. Jacob was up every two hours last night and we didn't get much rest. Trying to be patient and attentive with Bekah today was a bit of a struggle. But Malcom, Mom and I all worked together and we're doing okay. Jacob's still pretty mellow and Bekah is being her normal, happy self and helping with anything we ask.
Malcom goes back to work tonight, but Mom's staying until Sunday so we'll be able to hold it together for a while longer. After Mom leaves, Malcom's taking a week off work also. Two solid weeks of help for me before REAL reality sets in. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself then, but I'm trying not to worry about it.
I am surprised at how easy it is to love this boy as much as I love Bekah. I really appreciate their differences already; when I want a little one to hold and cuddle, I've got Jacob. When I want a sweet little person to interact with and be silly with, I've got Rebekah. I am so grateful that everything went smoothly, and especially that Jacob is healthy and well. I can't believe how blessed I am. :)

Ohhhh I LOVE his downy hair all fluffy and clean in those jammies! Can't wait to touch him for REAL!!!
Sounds like you're doing great. I'm so glad Malcom can take a week off after Mom leaves, that was perfect strategy. After that, your body should be feeling a little better. The baby's schedule might not be fabulous by then, but at least you won't be in totally physical recovery mode...??? One day at a time!
He is very cute and looks very healthy!! Congratulations! I love his hair.
He is so cute! Congratulations. SO excited for you and your family. I am sure it is so nice to have your mom there. Just a few weeks ago we were up ever 2 hours. I love babywise...because of it last night Dane ate at 9 then woke up for his next feeding at 2! Dream come true! Can't wait to meet the little guy!
He's adorable, I love his hair! Congratulations!!
