Not-So Scriptural Child

Mosiah 3:19 says that we should become as a little child, then lists the attributes of said child: "submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father." What child is this scripture talking about?!

If the scripture were re-written about our daughter, it might go something like this: "Refrain from being as a little infant, stubborn, insolent, impatient, whiney, full of spit-up, unwilling to submit to any thing which her mother or father knows is best for her. Yea, verily, just grow up already."

I'm thinking they were probably talking about 5- or 6-year olds, not infants or toddlers. Do they become submissive, meek, etc. at that age? At any age?!

The answer is no. The 5 yr old goes something like this: "...fiercely independent, loud, whiney, messy, full of back-talking, willing to completely ignore anything you say to them, even daring to do the exact opposite of what you have asked." There is no age where it stops, really. The nature of the infractions just change. Amen.

I would like to add my amen to Amy's comment.

I think that there is a sweet time period when children are young. When was it... when they are asleep. Seriously, I think that there are some times that the scriptural child comes out and more often than not the not so scriptural child is present.

Not really. The 9-yr-old is into playing games, watching tv, and tuning out Mom way too much of the time :)
