Guy Stuff

Malcom here. Let me just push the 'pause' button on all the baby stuff for a bit for some really important stuff.

Video games to the Extreme™

What happens when you mix the following: a video-centric company with large projectors, a big parking lot, a massive speaker amplifier, rabid Xbox junkies and lots of time. You get the Ultimate Halo Fight Night.

Here's the low-down: one of our friends works for webconference.com where they do all types of video presentations and networking. They have several big-screen projectors. Another friend is big into audio production and brought some big speakers, an audio mixer and a powerful amp. Four others (myself included) brought an Xbox 360 with a copy of Halo 3. After an hour or two of setup and hooking them all together on a network, the results look something like this:

That's a parking lot in Glendale. We had about a dozen people at any given time running around, tossing frag grenades and blowing each other to smithereens. With the amps a-rockin, rocket explosions and gun fire sound really really loud.

Around 11:30pm, two cop cars drive by. As soon as they saw our escapade, they quickly took a U-turn and stopped by the parking lot. "Oh crap" we thought as another rocket explosion rattled nearby windows. Greg, who works at webconference.com, got up and started to approach the police. Maybe we could persuade them to let us keep playing if we kept it down? When Greg got halfway to one of the cruises, one of the cops got on his bullhorn. Like the voice of an unseen diety he proclaimed, "You're cool. We're just watching." It was as if we were suddenly given some type of Holy Permission to keep doing what we were doing. The cops had just given us a seal of approval. Grins and laughter were shared.

One of us invited the cops to join to which the booming bullhorn voice said "No thanks. But if you play Call of Duty 4 give us a call." After 20 minutes they left to do whatever cops do on Friday night. They came back an hour later to watch some more. Like a little video game angel watching from afar.

Movie Junk

As some of you know I work for Sony Pictures Television. As I was leaving work a while back, some workers were moving this into the warehouse:

If you know your recent movies you should be able to recognize it. This is the giant eagle prop from the movie "Hancock". For those who have seen it, this eagle is outside the bank being robbed.

Sweet! And I thought the 3 small projectors shot against our EQ president's living room wall was cool! I'm absolutely terrible at the game, but Halo 3 does rock. That's also cool about the incident with the cops. Such a story!

Is Call of Duty 4 like a Law Enforcement game? Mark and his cronies play it at work when they are in between classes. He would of loved to be there though, that's for sure. Have fun!

(I just read my comment and it made me sound like I was asking what type of game COD 4 is instead of implying that it must be a law enforcement thing) Had to clarify since I couldn't edit.
