I am so mad.
SO. MAD.
On Friday, we were watching TV when we had a power outage. The whole block went black for about 30 seconds, then everything came back on. Except for the TV.
We bought said TV last year for Malcom's birthday present--well, we wanted a new one anyway and it was around his birthday. It was a screaming deal at $1100 for a huge flat screen and a great picture. Plus it was 1080p, something that Malcom thinks is the best (and has to re-explain it to me every time I ask). Who cares that it was a no-name company when the price was right, right?! So wrong.
We tried in vain to get the TV back on. We unplugged the power, used the manual buttons instead of the remote, and even banged on it a few times. In desperation we called customer service and they said "Well, those units tend to have a bad power supply inside that's sensitive to power surges." And that was it. Well, actually, they gave us the number of a repair shop, but when we called them, they said they don't service Westinghouse any more.
So, we're out of luck. I've tried to find other repair options online, but keep reading about how other people have had the EXACT same problem with their Westinghouse crap: TV dies just after the 1-year warranty, no customer support, and no one to repair the decrepit thing.
WHAT A HORRIBLE COMPANY!!! IF THEY KNOW THAT THE SET IS SENSITIVE, WHY DON'T THEY JUST FIX THE PROBLEM?!?! HOW UNETHICAL DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO CONTINUE TO PUT OUT A BAD PRODUCT, AND THEN TELL CUSTOMERS "TOO BAD, SO SAD" WHEN THEY ASK FOR HELP? AT LEAST NOTE IT IN THE MANUAL SO I CAN GET A $20 SURGE PROTECTOR TO SAFEGUARD MY $1100 INVESTMENT!
Sorry for yelling.
I am just so dang mad.
Plus, Heroes is on tonight and I can't watch it here. I'll have to invade someone's house and use them for their better electronics.
We've gottta buy a new TV-- I don't watch all day, but I sure love winding down with it, watching the occasional DVD with Malcom when we can't afford a real date, and being addicted to The Office, Heroes, and Lost.
Don't worry about posting your sympathy in the comments, just do me a favor and go hug your TV while you still have it. It is precious and deserves your appreciation. You never know how much you love it until it's gone.

YIKES! That's awful!! I know I get really mad when something breaks and I can't get someone to fix it the way I think they should. I know it won't be NEARLY what you guys had, but you can check out freecycle and craigslist to find a stop-gap. Then you can at least still watch your programs until you figure out what the solution is going to be...
You are welcome to come over and watch Heroes with me. I recorded it and haven't watched it yet. I'm also a Lost fan too, but that won't be on until January. And I can't stand the Office, but you are welcome to watch it today. If you are looking to buy another one check www.slickdeals.net. Sometimes they have really good deals and I was looking today and they have a 42" plasma Vizio for $690 or somewhere close. Let me know and I can send you the info.
I didn't hug my TV, but I did pat it as I walked by. I too get mad when someone sells inferior products and tries to be in the running with the "big boys". Good luck with that.
