After & Before

You've met White Doggy recently, that poor, tattered, over-loved thing Bekah carries everywhere. This week, we "lost" the dog at the babysitter's house. We scoured the place and just couldn't find him. We had to leave without him and Bekah was okay. She asked about him a lot, but she didn't get upset. She slept with another dog and a shark that night. When we met up with the babysitter and her daughter at the park the next day, they brought the dog. Bekah was very happy to see him and all was well. Crisis averted.

Malcom and I agreed it was time to look for backup. I've looked at Target several times since I bought the original one there two years ago. I've never found one. But on Friday everything aligned and we FOUND the original dog at Target. Yay! Only, he was a little hard to recognize...

Let me remind you what THE White Doggy looks like:
Poor, dirty thing can't even hold his head up anymore because all the stuffing in his neck is gone. He looks emaciated.

And this is the beautiful creature I found in the store:

Look at all that plush, sparkling, WHITE fur:
His head sits properly on his neck AND you can see his gray eyes. Woah!

It was kind of a disgusting realization, honestly. I mean, I do wash that dog, but obviously not often enough. And look at them side-by-side:
Ewwww!!! It's like the gross, old, family dog next to the pure-bred show dog!! Unreal!

Malcom says we'll just keep the new guy hidden away and use him in the most dire of emergencies if White Doggy ever gets truly lost. If we never have to use him, the plan is to give the pretty one to Bekah's first child. :P

Lessons learned: 1) Wash the lovie as often as possible. 2) Kids really LOVE their lovies.

Just watch: you'll go to give her the new, clean, soft back-up doggy in an emergency someday and she won't want it because she won't recognize it!!!

Um, maybe I threw up a little in my mouth when I saw doggie close-up. Not by any means implying that you are a bad mom for letting her continue to play with this festering breeding ground for all things germy, just a little put off by what must be growing in that things fir :) Hug and kiss my niece for me please!

I KNOW! Sadly for us, Evie's lovie is a stuffed bear that her Gramma brought back from London the week she was born...as much as I've tried, I just can't find another. Good thing she's almost completely grown out of her actual dependency on it.

The "Huskie" is Caroline's favorite stuffed animal too, strange coincidence! Do you let her play on webkinz with it too? She might do like my kids and completely forget there was a "stuffed" counterpart!

Oh the danger of having a lovie! I remember Jason have a lovie - a blue blanket. Just like Amy suggested, when I presented Jason with another blanket, because his lovie blanket was distroyed by to much love, he didn't want it and cried for the orginal. So sad! I think you need to take new lovie and rub it in the dirt, wash the thing, and then maybe it would look more like her lovie now. Forget what Holly says about the germs - everything has germs. (sorry Holly - don't think about it)

Ryan had a little lovie like that named Buddy... he is in almost every picture we ever got of him around Bekah's age. :) We ended up buying 3 replacements because 2 became lost through the years -- the 3rd (along with the well-loved one still in use on occasion) is now in my hope chest to give him someday. :)
