Today, she got her new brace on. First she had to get the short cast sawed off; she cried a lot and kept looking at me like "Why would you let them do this to me, Mommy?" Even though I was holding her, there was nothing I could do to reassure her. :( Then the brace guy brought in the new hardware and showed me how it works. It has no-slip padding on the bottom so she can stand and walk with it too!

(Brace close up; I could only get this shot when she was sitting still, which only happens when she's strapped into something!)
The beige-ish sock is just temporary. We can put whatever sock we want on her as long as it's very thin; think men's dress socks, not quite as thin as nylons. I'm thinking I can find some cute, colorful socks to jazz up her new rig. Maybe it'll look a little less like Forest Gump with some chic pink argyle! We're not sure yet how long she'll have to wear it. Her overall progress will be checked by the orthopedist on Wednesday and he'll tell us the details. For now, we're VERY HAPPY to return to normal baths. Bekah was happy too. She babbled and "talked" the entire time during her bath tonight, as if the water were her long-lost friend. :)
We also had a regular check up today (yes, lots of time spent in offices and the car!). She is 18 pounds, 9 ounces, and 24 inches tall. She's in the 75th percentile for height and weight, which isn't surprising considering her daddy! She gets to start more table foods now, which I am REALLY excited about. She can have fun stuff like cheese, eggs, and all the fruits and veggies. I can't wait to have her try it all. She has thus far been a good eater, only hating a few things (meat baby food, apricots, and peaches). I hope she continues to like many types of food and grows into a not-too-picky toddler.

I might have been scarey when they did it but she looks happy now. that brace looks awesome. She can walk in it and it is so thin that you don't really notice its there. I'm happy you you guys. Pretty soon she can have a normal bath again! yeah!
I can just see her brace with pink argyl socks:) I'm so glad she can enjoy the water again!
First of all, how can she hate apricots??
Yeah for no cast! She's growing up so fast!
You might want to jazz it up with some stickers. Clear acrylic seal helps keep them on..
I looked into various ways of decorating Sarah's helmet when they told us she'd have to get one...
Ahhh, so slim and light! Looks good! Takes me back to my backbrace days... I had the same beige "sock" thing. It REALLY helps w/ the sweaty factor, just make sure whatever funky colors you get are cotton, not polyester!
