So Blessed!

I took Bekah to her follow-up appointment for her foot today. I was anxious for one big reason: we're trying to get new health insurance right now. The shortest version of the dilemma is this: We lost our insurance because I quit teaching. We started shopping around and realized that the cheapest we can get by with is around $400 a month. That's not really bad, but we found out that Bekah's club foot makes for an automatic denial! Yes, the insurance companies will automatically deny any club foot patient unless it's been operated on. The alternative would be to put us on a cobra plan which will accept her automatically, but that would cost us $780 a month. The other option is if her foot is deemed as "completely healed" by the Orthopedist, then the insurance won't even have to deal with it.

I drove over to the office and headed inside, totally annoyed that I forgot to bring cash to pay for parking when I left. (You'd think I'd know by now that no matter where you go in LA, you ALWAYS need to take cash for parking!!) I waited in the waiting room for 30 minutes, trying to keep a baby entertained while she was missing her morning nap. BLESSING #1: The office has tons of toys and a kid's movie running, plus plenty of room to crawl for our little monkey. Bekah was well-behaved and content during the wait.

I finally got into a room, which Malcom calls "the second waiting room." We waited there for 15 more minutes, but we were entertained by BLESSING #2: The nurse absolutely loves my baby! She stayed there with us for a while and made all kinds of silly faces and noises for Bekah. I also asked her about an ATM to get cash for parking. She told me that (BLESSING #3) even though they don't usually validate parking for everyone, she keeps extra validation stickers around just for cases like me. How nice was that?!

The doctor came in and examined her sweet little foot. He said it looks great and that BLESSING #4: she only has to wear the brace when she sleeps, at night and for naps. Yeah!!! I am so happy! She can really learn to walk now, and we might even put her in some totally superfluous shoes, just for fun. :D

I talked to him about the insurance. BLESSING #5: He said that he would make many notes in the charts about her club foot designation being finished and that she never has needed and never should need surgery. I'm almost positive the insurance will take her now!

Anyway, that's all the news that is news. I said many happy, grateful prayers on the way home. I'm still aware of the fact that insurance will feel expensive, I don't have a job yet, and we're running out of money, but I really have no doubt that the Lord will continue to bless us according to our faith.

Don't you just love blessings! The Lord is good! I am so happy that things are looking good for her foot. She is such a doll baby! Keep having faith. You know I left my job too, and have been home, it is tough, but so worth it. I am so glad to be getting to know you through the "blog."

I am so glad that the Lord is watching over and blessing you. I hope someday to be able to see all of the little blessings in my life. I think that I miss out on a lot of them. You have inspired me to look for the little blessings. It is fun to hear that Bekah can learn to walk and that she will be able to wear cute shoes. Cute shoes are very important.
