Reflecting on '08

Recently, Simple Mom posted some fabulous questions to reflect on the last year before moving onto the new one. I love the way she gets me to think about the important things in my life. I know that should come from church and personal study too, but sometimes it comes from a random blog friend/stranger. I'll answer the ones that I liked:

1. What was the single best thing that happened this past year?
I think raising Bekah from a baby to a toddler was the best thing to happen every day of my year. It has been an unexpected pleasure to love her so much!

2. What was an unexpected joy this past year?
Quite a few: learning to love clouds, becoming a runner, and electing a black president.

3. Pick three words to describe 2008.
Unstable. Rewarding. Faith-promoting.

4. What were the best books you read this year?
The Twilight series, Anne of Green Gables, These is My Words, The Last Lecture

5. In what way(s) did you grow spiritually?
I made a goal in 2008 to do my visiting teaching 100% every month. And I almost made it--I think I did about 95% for the whole year. I really gained my own personal belief in WHY we visit and teach inactive members of the church. It's been such a blessing.

6. In what way(s) did you grow physically?
I ran a 5K, for crying out loud! That helped me lose weight, gain confidence, and become a runner. Wonderful!

7. In what way(s) did you grow in your relationships with others?
I persevered in contacting my sister and I think it's paid off. She's allowing me back into her life slowly and it brings me to tears to think of it--I'm so happy!!

8. What was the best way you used your time this past year?
I loved working on my sewing hobby. I did a few projects and felt good about what I accomplished.

9. What was the biggest thing you learned this past year?
It was really frustrating to be uncertain about our job/income situation, even before the economy fell. But I never felt out of control, or fearful that we'd really fall on desperately hard times. I had faith in God that He would bless us and He did. It's as simple and complicated as that!
