Seeking Advice, Part II

Our toddler is transitioning into sippy cups. I love this because they seem a lot more portable than bottles. However, the sippies we have are not so good. They're Avent brand which I used exclusively for bottles--great bottles, very leaky sippies. Even they're "no spill" kind have this annoying air vent hole that drips out the liquid. No big deal when it's water, but now that we're using real cows milk, I don't want everything in the house to start smelling like sour milk, especially the already yucky carpet.

What sippies do you like? Is there a specific brand that you can enthusiastically recommend? I like the soft tip of the Avent ones because she's just transitioning from the bottle, and my only other preference is that it doesn't leak. At all. Not even a drop.

Thanks. . . again!

We've used the Nuby ones with the silicone tip and they hardly leak. We have also used the Nuby ones with the hard plastic that has a white insert that flows slow or fast depending on the way it is placed in the top. However, the most surprising sippy cups we found are the disposable ones from The First Years. They work surprisingly well, and we have had hardly any leaks. The tip is more firm than the silicone ones but is not as hard as a solid plastic one. We know about the sour carpet as well. Mackensie spilled so much milk on the carpet with her leaky sippy cups when we first moved into our house that we ripped out the carpet and put in laminate flooring a year later. (The bigger reason is that I think the previous occupants took apart their transmission in the middle of the floor.) Good luck finding one that works for you!

Playtex, because I can wash out the stopper with a bottle brush. Nuby had a hard plastic one, that never leaked, but I couldn't seem to get clean to my satisfaction.

I would recommend the Foogo cups from thermos. They are great because they are stainless steel and can stand up to kids throwing them everywhere, also, they have yet to leak, ever. We have direct experience with our niece and nephews with thermos or sigg products and so far they are doing pretty well. We always keep a Foogo sippy in the house for the kids when they come over. They also keep drinks colder for longer periods, I have never tried it with hot drinks though. I recommend this one, the only other cups we have ever had in our house are the disposable ones which leak when left to be kicked around, and playtex which is more for the older toddler who likes hard plastic cups. Foogo's spouts are also softer I believe.

The Avent ones didn't leak when Taylor was a baby, and now they've changed the design and I hate them, too! Right now I have two of the Gerber Graduates Fun Grips Color Change Spill-Proof Cups. I LOVE them. Alex has yet to spill with them. I didn't care about the color-changing feature when I bought them, but it has actually been quite handy. It changes color when something cold is in it, so I can easily see if her milk has warmed up too much and she shouldn't be drinking it. I got mine at Walmart, but you can see them here: http://www.gerber.com/Products/Fun_Grips_Spill_Proof_Cups.aspx?PLineId=60decc66-4b21-45cd-a5ac-fc1fc2cdff10&PCatId=b7533200-4df5-4295-99cd-498d36e11db5&PMilestoneId=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000#

The disposable First Years ones work well, too, but only for a little while. Then they do leak after a while and you do have to dispose of them. I buy those for use at Church, so it's not a big deal if it gets lost. Usually I just put water in them, though.

I totally forgot about the Sigg! Temberlie has mastered the use of it quite well and we haven't had too many leaks. They are super heavy duty and ours are almost like new, even after being over a year old.

Unfortunately I haven't bought a sippy in like 5+ years!!! (Tucker just used hand-me-downs for the most part.) But let me know what you decide on!

In my experience, the only ones that don't leak... ever... are the ones with a seperate "stopper" that goes in the inside. It is kind of a pain, because then you have an extra piece to keep track of, but NO LEAKS! There are lots of brands with this leak-proof technology, so good luck!
